Tech Industry Gold launches online Industry Insights and Industry Open Houses

We are pleased to launch a series of online sessions exclusively for Tech Industry Gold students comprising Bite Size Industry Insights and Industry Open Houses. Each event will be run once a week on a Wednesday afternoons – please register if you can attend, whether for a single session or several. 

Bite Size Industry Insights

What: Online lectures by employer representatives to give students an insight into industry. Employers speak for around 15 minutes followed by 15 minutes of Q&A with students.
When: Wednesday 14:00 – 14:30 (13th May / 20th May / 27th May / 3rd June / 10th June / 17th June)

Prof. Ben Azvine, Global Head of Security Research and Innovation, BT
“The future of Cyber Security and the impact of new technology.”
Cyber security is a top priority for many organisations as we see a rising number of attacks on a daily basis. The fact that the number of attacks is increasing can be attributed to the increasing capabilities of hackers, criminals and hacktivists on the one hand, and an unprecedented increase in the rate of adoption of new technology on the other. In this talk Ben will focus on the state of cyber security, the threat to the environment, the key technological challenges and how research is addressing the challenges going forward.

“Maintaining the EE Mobile Network and Covid-19 implications”
Sara will talk about her working life maintaining the EE Mobile Network for over 30million customers 24/7, 365 days a year. She will give an update on how Covid-19 has changed network usage and the challenges that it has created for BT. She will also discuss the challenges and benefits that home working has brought to industry.

Industry Open House

What: Informal online chats between 3 employers representatives with experience in recruitment, and 12 students, focused on how to get jobs and placements.
When: Wednesdays 15:00 – 15:40 (27th May / 3rd June / 10th June / 17th June)
Topics: Likely to include ‘what employers look for’, CV writing tips, (online) interview techniques, what to expect at an assessment centre etc.
