Tech Industry Gold South Event Competition 2020

The next Tech Industry Gold South event will take place on Wednesday 11th March 2020, at Allianz Park in north London.

First-Year Competition

Focusing on a choice of industry sector, the challenge for students is to devise a solution that exploits emerging technologies to help businesses maximise their contribution to one of the 17 goals.

Each university may put forward 2 x first-year teams per course, i.e. if you run ITMB and SEfB, you may enter 4 teams, but not more than 2 per course. They can, of course, be mixed teams. Teams need to have registered with us at info@tpdegrees.com by Friday 28th February. Teams do not need to provide us with any materials on entering. If you are holding heats that happen after 28th February, please just provide the number of teams that will be entering by this date.

Teams can be made up of 2 – 8 students, the optimum being between 4 and 6.

Each team needs to produce an A1 poster of their proposition that they bring with them to the event. Please encourage the students to make their poster as memorable as possible and in a format that it could tell the story without them. In this way when they have left the room, it is easy for the judges to recall their good ideas. Posters can be collected at the end of the event.

Four or five teams (depending on number of overall entries) will enter the judging room at the same time and will each present their poster for five minutes maximum. Each presentation will be followed by a short Q&A and then this will be followed by feedback by one of the employer judges to each team. The students will be in the room for approximately 35 minutes.

Second, Final and MSci Competition

Focusing on a choice of industry sector, the challenge for students is to devise a solution that exploits emerging technologies to help businesses maximise their contribution to one of the 17 goals.

Each university may put forward 2 x second, final and MSci year teams per course, i.e. if you run ITMB and SEfB, you may enter 4 teams, but not more than 2 per course. They can, of course, be a mixed year and mixed course teams.

Create a presentation to pitch your proposition to the judges. Think outside the PowerPoint box and get creative.

Each team will enter the judging room separately and will have seven minutes to present. They will be stopped if they go over this time. This will be followed by three minutes of Q&A by the judges and then feedback to the team for five minutes.
