Frequently Asked Questions

What are these degrees?
There are two types of degrees – the IT Management for Business (ITMB) and Software Engineering for Business (SEfB). They are both full Bsc Hons or MSci Hons delivered and awarded by the universities listed here for ITMB and here for SEfB. The degrees were designed (and are reviewed) by employers in the tech industry in conjunction with academics, and each university delivering them has gone through a rigorous process to gain Tech Partnership Degrees’ accreditation known as Tech Industry Gold.

Why would I consider these degrees compared to other degrees?
Our results are pretty outstanding. There is no known unemployment, compared to computing overall having the highest rate of unemployment of all subjects six months after graduation. Consistently over 80% of graduates gain 1sts or 2:1s – 82% in 2017 – compared to 52% for computing degrees overall and there is double the proportion of females compared to computing degrees overall.

Will this degree broaden my career prospects?
Yes. There is no known unemployment, compared to computing overall having the highest rate of unemployment of all subjects six months after graduation. You will also have many opportunities to meet employers during your time at Uni at networking events, when taking part in competitions, during placement opportunities and when they present industry insight talks. We also have a network of alumni who ‘give-back’ to the course in the form of mentoring and skills development.

Are these computer science degrees?
There is an element of computer science / technical skills, but students will learn about technology in the context of business as well as project management and interpersonal skills which are the skills employers want from new graduates.

What is the difference between the two degrees?
Both degrees have been designed to incorporate the skills that employers want, i.e. the skills mentioned above; however, ITMB is roughly 25% in each area whereas SEfB is about 50% in the technology area.

Do I need to have studied IT, Computer Science or Business at A-Level?
For ITMB, it is not a pre-requisite – you just need to be interested in both technology and business. In fact, we have a student who graduated this year from Loughborough with a first-class degree who did Dance, PE, and Media. You can see Sarah’s case study here.

For SEfB, we suggest viewing details on the university’s website as some will prefer you to have a STEM subject at A-Level.
