John Lewis is choosing Gold for its Degree Apprentices
John Lewis has chosen Queen Mary University of London (QMUL) as its education partner for its recently launched IT Degree Apprenticeship programme.
John Lewis has introduced this programme as a route to attract talented new Partners to its business: individuals at the start of their careers who have a real desire to work in technology. The apprentices will get the chance to gain on-the-job training at John Lewis’ head office IT department, while studying for a degree in Digital & Technology Solutions BSc (Hons) at QMUL.
The QMUL programme has been accredited by the Tech Partnership, meaning that John Lewis can be confident that the university will provide a high level of support and outstanding delivery of the programme.
Alistair Wood, Technical Design and Development Practice Lead at John Lewis said: “The Degree Apprenticeship programme gives us the ability to attract capable and enthusiastic individuals to John Lewis IT. People think of John Lewis as a retailer, but it’s actually a fantastic business to build a tech career. This programme is an exciting new way to grow our technical skills-base at John Lewis, and the Apprentices will play a huge part in moving the business forward.”
As a member of the Tech Partnership, John Lewis was involved in the specification of the Digital and Technology Solutions Degree Apprenticeship from the beginning. Working with tech employers from a variety of sectors ensures that the specification delivers the skills that companies need, both now and in the future.
John Lewis is looking to recruit its first nine Degree Apprentices to start in September 2016. The new Partners will begin by working either in their project-focused area, such as in delivering new systems or in their testing practice; or in their operational area, in application and infrastructure operations.
John Lewis hopes that when the apprentices graduate, they will continue work within the company on a permanent basis, and that candidates will have developed their technical skills, and gained an excellent knowledge of the whole business.
